First I wanted to establish a baseline of filling the canvas with triangles that fit into other triangles.

I had the thought of creating a framing pattern, so I started messing around with different configurations.

I was curious what those intersections would like when they converged at the center, and turns out they look really cool.

So of course I had to do it in color.

Then I started messing around with filling some of the triangles. I quickly realized that the filled triangles overlapping at the corners didn’t look as good as the wireframe triangles, so I adjusted the pattern to get rid of the overlap points (which does unfortunately mean the center pattern is no longer that cool star thing; RIP.)

I liked how clean this looked, but it was also kinda boring, so I changed the fill pattern and wow did that make a difference. I love how it brings out the edges of the rows and makes these sort of squiggly pyramids. I just kept doing it in different colors and it kept looking great.

Next I decided to try changing to right triangles. On my first try I forgot to adjust some of the numbers to account for the new side lengths and ended up with this beautiful mess that’s like an ugly sweater got bit by a radioactive 90s kids show.

I fixed that issue and then started mess around with different configurations.

Now, I could mess with triangles all day, and I probably will come back to them at some point. But I had another idea percolating and I am nothing if not easily distracted by shiny new ideas.
Tune in next time if you’re a nerd.
