My Favorite Things I Posted Here in 2022
- “Methods to the Madness: How I Wrote 30(ish) Poems(ish) in 30 Days”
I really enjoyed demystifying the poetry-writing process a bit, and sharing some of my favorite experimental writing strategies. In case you don’t want to read the whole thing but want to know which poems I liked the most: “The English Major Dreams”, “Olympian Acrostics, Part Αʹ”, “[Sure I could celebrate each day, but how exhausting,]”, “Olympian Acrostics, Part Δʹ”, “[pigeons pecking]”, “Something to Chew On”, “Haiku in the Midst of a Storm”, “Going Going Gone”, “The Golem in Reverse”. - “Twitter Digest #4: Nerding Out on Music Vol. 1”
I’m just really proud of my “Alone” analysis, I think it holds up. - “Twitter Digest #5: The Stories We Tell Ourselves”
It’s weird, I feel like I’ve thought a lot more about what I want from stories since I stopped writing fiction (or at least stopped making any serious attempts at it) than I ever did while I was writing fiction. Well, those who can’t do, etc.
(Not saying I’m never going to try to write fiction again, it just hasn’t been a priority for a while and probably won’t be any time soon.) - “The Unburied and the Dead”
This started out as much more cerebral and then at some point the bodies started moving and I just kind of went with it.

So last year I said I hoped I would write more in 2022, and then I did! I wrote more poems than I’d written in the previous 5 years combined! I also wrote (most of) the longest single piece of writing I’ve ever written! (If you’re reading this sentence then it’s not actually out yet but will be soon.)(If you’re reading this sentence then it is out and you can read it here.)(If you’re reading this sentence then I forgot to edit this and it’s anyone’s guess whether that piece is out yet, guess you’ll just have to read everything on this site to find it.)(If you’re reading this sentence then I decided to leave in all of the previous sentences because I thought, probably incorrectly, that it would be funny.)(This is not a sentence)
I also put out a couple covers on Soundcloud that took more than the minimum amount of effort.
All in all a very productive year. I’m still working on my Big Secret Project, which probably won’t be out this year but maybe 2024? And I’ve got a couple ideas for longer essays that I might attempt now that I know I can. So 2023 will hopefully be just as productive, but maybe not as visibly. I want to do more with music, too, so we’ll see where that goes.
