Synonyms {Rough Draft}
Advice is like a cupcake
that you cut the bottom off of,
eating only the frosting and sprinkles
and throwing away the rest.
Cancer is like a director
who keeps firing his cast and crew
until he’s left playing
his own sidekick and archnemesis whilst
the lights beat down too hot
and the camera is left to drift.
The COVID-19 pandemic is like a boyfriend
you can’t bring yourself to break up with
even though you’re no longer in love,
so you distract yourself by going out
to movies, to clubs, anywhere with people,
anywhere you won’t be alone with him,
even though you know that you should end it,
stay home for a couple weeks
bingeing Marvel movies and eating ice cream
while you let the world reset itself.
The economy is like an elevator
that’s used by the rich
to get to high places
they couldn’t get to otherwise,
but when it inevitably crashes
due to poor regulation
it’s the poor bastards on the bottom
who get crushed.
