Those Who Live in Belvedere

Belvedere, M. C. Escher
Those Who Live in Belvedere

 I. The Matron

 No child wants to run
a prison when they grow up
 but someone has to

 II. The Petitioner

 If I'm going to
be locked up I might as well
 just go starve at home

 III. The Inventor

 This is the kind of
cell I think I could live in
 if only I could

 IV. The Nobleman

 Sometimes I don't know
 if I'm coming or going
 or if I'm just stuck

 V. The Squire

 I felt safer down
there at the bottom I knew
 where I was and why

 VI. The Lady

 I can't see the sun
 through these windows I only
 see walls and more walls

 VII. The Lord

 Maybe if I don't
look at them things will finally
 make sense around here

 VIII. The Prisoner

 Everything here bends.
 Everything here keeps going.
 Everything but me.
